Tourist supplies venture wins Startup Weekend
The team’s e-commerce platform is initally targeting the 200,000 tourists who fly into New Zealand each year and is eyeing interested channel partners like Skycity and Air New Zealand.
The package is delivered to the tourist’s hotel room and could contain items like Sim cards, snacks and toiletries.
The runner up was Team Selecta, an app for selecting sports teams. Auckland University Hockey Club president Tracey Thomson had the idea for the app, which sorts players into teams according to rankings, positions they play and availability.
The team planned to charge $3 per download, of which $1 went to the sports club.
The People’s Choice award went to Wedding Advisors, whose app and website was designed as a one stop shop for wedding supplier listings that could be peer reviewed.
ArriveSupplied’s prizes included $10,000 of advertising credits from Trade Me, a startup law package, coworking space, a Xero software subscription and a place on Massey University’s ecentre Sprint incubation programme.
The judges were Candace Kinser, head of NZICT, Alexei Dunayev, a former Startup Weekend winner with Transcribe Me, business advisor Lance Wiggs and Startup Weekend organiser Dave Moskowitz.
